I am writing to inform you of a special initiative which is coming up in May 2011. The BPW Canada Virtual Club is hosting a teleconference fundraiser in order to support Walk With Me.
Walk With Me is an organization, established by Timea Nagy, which works to combat human trafficking in Canada.
When Timea came to Canada, she was forced into the sex trade against her will. She escaped, and after a tumultuous journey decided not only to fight back because of her own situation, but also to reach out to help as many other people as she possibly could. She started “Walk With Me” (www.walk-with-me.org) to combat human trafficking in Canada
The organization tackles the complexities of human trafficking in many ways such as:
- Public Education (police, health workers, governments, organizations etc.)
- Advocacy
- Emergency Response to assist victims of human trafficking
- Collecting funds to support victims of human trafficking
In June 2010, Timea E. Nagy addressed the BPW National Convention. During this time she recounted some of her story, addressed the nature of human trafficking and what is needed to counter it effectively. The importance of her message cannot be overstated.
It is with hope of reaching as many people as possible that BPW Canada Virtual Club has arranged a teleconference with Timea Nagy on May 18th, 2011 at 7pm EST. This teleconference will serve two purposes:
- To further educate the BPW members and the general public about human trafficking.
- To support the important work of “Walk With Me” through a donation generated from the funds received from the teleconference. Once expenses from the teleconferences are cleared, all of the funds generated from this event will be donated to “Walk With Me” which is registered under the nationally recognized charity Courage to Cope.
We strongly encourage you to take this opportunity to join us in supporting Timea and “Walk With Me”. To assist the co-ordination of this event we ask that you RSVP by May 10th, 2011.
